My current anti-acne product obsession!

At one point in my skincare regime, I was a HUGE fan of Retin-A. It sent my adult acne bye-bye and I viewed the anti-aging benefits as icing on the cake. I was so hooked on the miracle topical treatment that I brought back a boat load from vacation in China (It's super cheap in China!)

Over the last  year I've been on the fence with Retin-A. After a long streak of success, my skin slowly started to relapse and occasional zits began popping up. My Retin-A has been on the back burner for quite some time now. In my head, I secretly go back and forth thinking of ways to reintroduce Retin-A into my regime. I'm sorry but I want those anti-aging benefits, damn it! 

Everyone knows that Retinol is the ish. Retinol is proven to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, improve overall texture, and promote the renewal of skin cells. Retinol products tend to have fewer side effects than Retin-A (i.e. adverse reactions and extreme dryness). 

When I learned of Vitivia Pro Vitamin A15, I jumped at the opportunity to give it a try. Pro Vitamin A15 contains pure Vitamin A (Retinol) at .15%. The Vitivia representative who introduced me to the product said that her sister's acne was so severe she was on Accutane. She switched from Accutane to Vitivia Pro Vitamin A15 and has had great success ever since. Seeing as my skin has recently decided to betray me and act a fool, I decided to give Vitivia a try.

Summer Beauty Tips

I recently wrote  a feature for Hot Mama Daily and thought it would be cool to republish the article on ThisThatBeauty. 

I was asked to share my top five summer beauty tips for women of color...so here you go!  And, for the record, I think the tips are pretty much universal and work for all of my sisters of the world:)

Here are Felicia’s tips:

1. “B” is for “Bronzer”:
Consider giving your liquid foundation, tinted moisturizer, or cream to powder formula a break for the summer months ahead. Instead, try bronzer.  Using bronzer is a quick and easy way to add warmth and highlight to your face with the use of just one product.

Try a few strokes of bronzer across the areas of the face where the sun naturally hits. If you love that lit from within look that’s so popular on the red carpet, try using bronzer and a little concealer under the eyes. Dust the cheeks, then lightly across the forehead, and brush a tad on the chin.

2. Have fun with color:

Summer’s the perfect time of year to add a perky punch of color to the lips or a wonderful wash of brightness to the eyes. Embrace the fun and lighthearted energy of summer. I love to dress lips in soft luscious colors that are flirty and on trend. When applying brightness to the eyes, focus on the lower lid area. Keep the wash of color soft and modern. Apply with a light touch and load up on the mascara. Choose, however, to focus the color on eyes or lips — not both.

Blush, done right, is an amazing pick-me-up. Summer’s the perfect time to incorporate a sheer flush of color to the cheeks. For women of color, the shade options are limitless. Sheer shades of berry, mauve, apricot, and bronze all work beautifully on women of color. Start at the apple of the cheeks with a light dab of color. Then pat until the color is softly blended. Applied too much?  Simply go over your cheeks with a light loose powder.

4. If you’ve got it, highlight it:

If your skin is feeling a little lackluster , find a great highlighting product to give you a healthy glow.  But remember, a tiny dose of highlighter goes a long way. My favorite highlighter hot spots include the inner tear duct, high point of cheekbone, brow bone, outer eye area near the hairline (in a backwards “c” motion).

Foreign Affair is a bold red 1940's inspired lipstick. It is described as "matte crimson". Ever since my brush with Lipstick Queen Red Sinner, I've been walking on the wild side and playing around with red.

On June 18th, Sam Fine celebrated the release of The Basics of Beauty DVD with a star studded launch party at Warren Tricomi salon in NYC. Sam Fine is an incredible makeup artist with over a decade of experience in creating iconic looks for the likes of Iman, Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson...the list goes on and on. The Beauty Basics is a step by step guide to creating great faces, the Same Fine way.
